From the host
This is the sponsored board for Detroit: the Motor City, the D, founded by the French in 1701 on the strait that gave it its name. One page where the city's businesses, events, venues and causes put themselves in front of people looking for what's happening locally.
Every ranked listing on this board is a paid placement. Sponsors bid for a spot, and the order is set by one thing only: the total each sponsor has bid in the current round. Nobody is ranked by reviews, editorial picks or an algorithm. Outbid a listing above you and you move up; the next sponsor can do the same.
Detroit is a city of neighborhoods and block clubs, of Saturday mornings at Eastern Market, summer on Belle Isle and evenings on the riverfront with Canada to the south. It eats coneys and square pizza with crispy cheese edges, keeps soul, jazz, gospel and techno close, and still carries the motto written after the fire of 1805: Speramus meliora; resurget cineribus. We hope for better things; it will rise from the ashes.
It's for anyone with something Detroit should know about: a restaurant opening in Corktown, a coffee shop in Midtown, a taqueria in Southwest Detroit, a gallery show in the Cass Corridor, a bookstore in the West Village, a Saturday stall at Eastern Market, a block club cleanup on the east side, a bakery in Hamtramck or a service business in Dearborn, Ferndale, Royal Oak or the Grosse Pointes.
Each listing links straight to the sponsor's own site. Links are marked as sponsored, and every listing is reviewed against the board's rules.

Questions
- How is the order decided?
- By the total each sponsor has bid in the current round, highest first. Nothing else moves a listing: no reviews, no editorial picks, no algorithm.
- Is every listing an ad?
- Yes. Every ranked listing on this board is a paid placement, and each link is marked as sponsored.
- Can a business in Dearborn, Hamtramck or the suburbs list here?
- Yes, if it has a Detroit connection, and Metro Detroit counts. A bakery in Hamtramck, a restaurant in Dearborn, a shop in Ferndale or Royal Oak, or a service business in Southfield, Warren or Ann Arbor that serves Detroiters belongs here as much as one downtown. Listings are reviewed against the board's rules, and ones that break them are removed.
- Can a market stall, a pop-up or a block club list?
- Yes. The board is for anything with a Detroit connection: a Saturday stall at Eastern Market, a pop-up dinner, a food truck, a block club cleanup, a gallery opening, a techno night or a coat drive on the east side. Each listing links to the sponsor's own site, and every listing is reviewed against the board's rules.
- What does a spot on the Detroit board cost?
- You choose your bid; the minimum on this board is $5. A service fee is added on top, and checkout shows the full total before you pay. To move up, raise your bid; you pay only for the raise. When a round closes, its final order is kept in the board's archive and a new round opens.
