    From the host

Houston grew up on Buffalo Bayou, and water still shapes it: bayou trails under live oaks, a ship channel that runs out to Galveston Bay, and summer storms that roll in off the Gulf. It's the Bayou City, and once it was the Magnolia City, for the magnolia groves that grew on its east side. Today it's a city of neighborhoods where people from all over the world have opened kitchens, shops, clinics and congregations side by side.

Houston keeps its own calendar: rodeo season at the end of winter, crawfish boils in spring, Juneteenth at Emancipation Park in Third Ward, hurricane prep from June, and patio weather when the humidity finally breaks. In between there's Tex-Mex and barbecue, kolaches and Gulf seafood, pho and Viet-Cajun crawfish on Bellaire Boulevard, art cars, the Museum District and theater nights downtown.

This is Houston's sponsored board: one page where the city's businesses, events, venues and causes put themselves in front of people looking for what's happening here.

Every ranked listing on this board is a paid placement. Sponsors bid for their spot, and one thing sets the order: the total each sponsor has bid in the current round. No one is ranked by reviews, editorial picks or an algorithm. Outbid the listing above you and you move up; the next sponsor can do the same.

It's for anyone with something Houston should know about: a taqueria opening in the East End, a kolache bakery in Katy, a gallery night in Montrose, a crawfish boil in the Heights, a night market in Chinatown, a food drive in Fifth Ward, a new shop in Garden Oaks or a roofer, plumber or AC tech serving Pearland, Sugar Land, The Woodlands and Baytown.

Each listing links straight to the sponsor's own site. Links are marked as sponsored, and every listing is reviewed against the board's rules.

    Questions

    How is the order decided?
By the total each sponsor has bid in the current round, highest first. Nothing else moves a listing: no reviews, no editorial picks, no algorithm.
    Is every listing an ad?
Yes. Every ranked listing on this board is a paid placement, and each link is marked as sponsored.
Which parts of the Houston area belong on this board?
Anywhere with a Houston connection, inside the Loop or out: the Heights, Montrose, the East End, Third Ward, Gulfton, Alief, Spring Branch, Kingwood and Clear Lake, and the cities around them in Harris, Fort Bend, Montgomery, Brazoria and Galveston counties, from Katy and Sugar Land to Pearland, Pasadena, Baytown, The Woodlands and Galveston.
    Can a food truck, a pop-up or a one-night event list here?
Yes. A food truck in EaDo, a pop-up market in Midtown, a Diwali night on Hillcroft or a church fish fry in Acres Homes all have a Houston connection. Listings are reviewed against the board's rules, and ones that break them are removed. When a round closes, its final order is kept in the board's archive and a new round opens.
Can a church, civic club or nonprofit list a drive or fundraiser?
Yes. A back-to-school supply drive, a bayou cleanup, a storm-relief collection or a civic club meeting all belong here when they have a Houston connection. You choose your bid, starting at $5. A service fee is added on top, and checkout shows the full total before you pay. To move up, raise your bid; you pay only for the raise.
