    From the host

San Francisco sits at the tip of a peninsula, with the bay on one side, the Pacific on the other and hills in between, and its weather changes from one neighborhood to the next. Summer fog can blanket the Avenues while the Mission sits in the sun, and the warmest weeks tend to come in September and October.

This is the City's sponsored board: one page where San Francisco's businesses, events, venues and causes put themselves in front of people looking for what's happening locally.

Every ranked listing on this board is a paid placement. Sponsors bid for a spot, and the order is set by one thing only: the total each sponsor has bid in the current round. Nobody is ranked by reviews, editorial picks or an algorithm. Outbid a listing above you and you move up; the next sponsor can do the same.

It's for anyone with something San Francisco should know about: a taqueria in the Mission, a dim sum spot on Clement Street, a bakery in the Outer Sunset, a gallery show in Dogpatch, a bookshop in North Beach, a Lunar New Year banquet in Chinatown, a block party in the Castro, a cleanup day in Bayview or a service business in Oakland, Berkeley, Daly City or San Mateo.

Each listing links straight to the sponsor's own site. Links are marked as sponsored, and every listing is reviewed against the board's rules.

    Questions

    How is the order decided?
By the total each sponsor has bid in the current round, highest first. Nothing else moves a listing: no reviews, no editorial picks, no algorithm.
    Is every listing an ad?
Yes. Every ranked listing on this board is a paid placement, and each link is marked as sponsored.
Can a business in Oakland, Berkeley or down the Peninsula list on San Francisco's board?
Yes. The board is for anything with a San Francisco connection, and plenty of the City's life crosses the bay: a restaurant in Oakland, a shop in Berkeley or a service business in Daly City or San Mateo belongs here as much as one on Valencia Street. Listings are reviewed against the board's rules, and ones that break them are removed.
Can a pop-up, a street fair or a neighborhood nonprofit take a spot?
Yes. Any business, event, organization or cause with a San Francisco connection can list: a Sunday pop-up, a street fair on a neighborhood corridor, a benefit night in the Tenderloin or a volunteer day in the Excelsior as much as a storefront. Each listing links to the sponsor's own site and is reviewed against the board's rules.
What does a spot on the San Francisco board cost?
The minimum bid here is $5. You choose your bid, a service fee is added on top, and checkout shows the full total before you pay. To move up, raise your bid; you pay only for the raise. When a round closes, its final order is kept in the board's archive and a new round opens.
