    From the host

This is the sponsored board for Washington, D.C.: the District's own neighborhoods in all four quadrants, and the Maryland and Virginia suburbs that share its commutes, its weekends and its rivers. Away from the monuments it's a city of rowhouses and front porches, go-go and half-smokes, Ethiopian restaurants around U Street, trails along the Potomac and the Anacostia, and cherry blossoms around the Tidal Basin every spring.

It's for anyone with something D.C. should know about: a restaurant opening on 14th Street, a coffee shop in Adams Morgan, a gallery show in Dupont Circle, a go-go night in Shaw, a pop-up market in NoMa, a book drive in Anacostia, a bakery on Capitol Hill, a new shop in Georgetown or a service business in Arlington, Alexandria, Silver Spring or Bethesda.

Every ranked listing on this board is a paid placement. Sponsors bid for a spot, and the order is set by one thing only: the total each sponsor has bid in the current round. Nobody is ranked by reviews, editorial picks or an algorithm. Outbid the listing above you and you move up; the next sponsor can do the same.

Each listing links straight to the sponsor's own site. Links are marked as sponsored, and every listing is reviewed against the board's rules.

    Questions

    How is the order decided?
By the total each sponsor has bid in the current round, highest first. Nothing else moves a listing: no reviews, no editorial picks, no algorithm.
    Is every listing an ad?
Yes. Every ranked listing on this board is a paid placement, and each link is marked as sponsored.
Can a business in Maryland or Virginia list here?
Yes, if it has a D.C. connection. The District's neighbors share its commutes and its weekends, so a restaurant in Silver Spring, a shop in Alexandria, a studio in Takoma Park or a contractor in Arlington that serves the city can list. Listings are reviewed against the board's rules, and ones that break them are removed.
Can a community group, a porch concert or a market stall list?
Yes. Any business, event, venue, organization or cause with a D.C. connection can list: a neighborhood cleanup along the Anacostia, a porch concert in Petworth, a stall at a weekend market on Capitol Hill, a go-go show, a supper club in Brookland or a youth orchestra's fundraiser.
What does a spot on the D.C. board cost?
The minimum bid on this board is $5. You choose your bid, a service fee is added on top, and checkout shows the full total before you pay. To move up, raise your bid; you pay only for the raise. When a round closes, its final order is kept in the board's archive and a new round opens.
